At Nova Dental Care, we believe prevention is the foundation of a healthy, confident smile. Even with excellent brushing and flossing at home, professional cleanings are essential for removing hardened plaque and tartar that your toothbrush simply can’t reach.
A professional dental cleaning, also called a prophylaxis, is a routine preventive treatment that removes plaque, tartar, and bacteria from the surfaces of your teeth and around the gum line.
For most patients, we recommend cleanings every six months.
If you’re at higher risk for gum disease or have a history of inflammation or bone loss, we may suggest visits every three to four months to keep your smile healthy and your gums stable.
New patients at Nova Dental Care receive a comprehensive exam before their first cleaning so we can understand your oral health needs and tailor your care plan.
No special preparation is needed!
Our cleanings are gentle, comfortable, and completely pain-free.
If your gums are sensitive, we may apply a mild numbing gel to ensure a pleasant experience.
Your hygienist will gently scale your teeth to remove plaque and tartar above the gum line. Next, a polishing paste smooths and brightens your enamel, followed by flossing to remove any remaining debris. If recommended, we’ll finish with a fluoride treatment to strengthen your enamel and help protect against decay.
You may experience slight tenderness—especially near the gums—but this should fade quickly. Rinse with warm salt water, use toothpaste for sensitivity, and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen if needed. If you received fluoride, wait about 30 minutes before eating or drinking so it can fully absorb.
Routine cleanings are one of the simplest and most effective ways to maintain oral health. Patients who skip professional cleanings are at higher risk for cavities, gum disease, and infections—issues that can also affect overall health, including heart and metabolic wellness.
During every visit, we monitor for early signs of dental concerns so small issues can be treated before they become major.
Our philosophy for dentistry is simple and straightforward. We aim to provide care that is in your best interest. This means we are transparent and non judgemental, kind and empathetic. We have multiple specialists in house as we feel that this is the best way to provide comprehensive care to our patients.
Our office is relaxing and spa-like because let’s face it, no one loves going to the dentist. We’re trying to change that by providing a soothing environment for oral care.
